Thu 07/26 – Leaving FL

Left home for the Orlando airport with plenty time to spare at 11:00am. Lucky we did because a nice United guy informed us that our connecting flight from Washington to JFK in New York was likely to be delayed or cancelled due to weather. He re routed us to Newark and gave us some Ground transport vouchers to get across NY to our hotel. We had to wait 3 hours to catch our “bus” and then had to sit 4 to a row like sardines in a tin for the 50 minute trip. All’s well that ends well. We made it to the room by 10:52 pm. 🙂
Meanwhile the Graves family had left Orlando for Washington a couple hours earlier and were supposed to meet us in Washington for the flight to NY. Sure enough their flight was cancelled and they were stranded.
John rented a mini van and hit the road to NY with Sportubes and family in tow for the 5 hour drive.
John had already gone through a huge Drama at Orlando when they would not take his custom sailplane box. He had to work swiftly to cut the rudder off the 4M Xplorer and repackage four planes into 2 Sportubes at the airport. Not the best way to find out – but we did figure that a 4M fuse fin does fit in the big end of a Sportube diagonally without the rudder. 🙂 (Thanks to Thomas Cooke for the tip.)
Kim just texted me to say they are in Brooklyn and nearly here.
The Graves arrived shortly after and we enjoyed a few beers while the ladies tested out the local chardies and we talked about what had been a long travel day – but all’s well that ends well.
JoBurg in the am.
